Why we built TimeTrove

We spend our lives preparing for almost everything... except the day we're no longer here.
I've lost more people than most. By the time I started building TimeTrove, I'd said goodbye to more than thirty people I loved; some after long illness, some with no warning at all.
What I learned is that grief has a practical side nobody prepares you for. Again and again I watched families sit down after a funeral and face the same things: phones that couldn't be unlocked. Photographs nobody could explain. Accounts that couldn't be closed. Words that had never been said, or had been said once, somewhere and now couldn't be found.
And I learned the opposite too. The things that helped were nearly always small. A voice note. The story behind a photograph. A message written for a particular day. When one of those existed, it changed what was left behind, from a pile of things to sort through, into something that felt like the person.
I couldn't find anything that did this. You’ve got apps to store files and services to help you write a will, but there’s nothing for everything in between, the stories, the voices, the reasons behind things. And I kept thinking: why does all of this have to feel like death admin? Recording your mum telling a story isn't morbid. Writing a message for a birthday you might not be at is probably one of the most loving things a person can do. I want this kind of planning to stop being something we dread and put off until it's too late and become something we do all through our lives. Because it was never really about death, it's about the people we love.
So that's what TimeTrove is. A place to keep life. You fill it while you're living it and it looks after the rest.

- Life is worth celebrating.
- Stories deserve context.
- Voices deserve to be heard again.
- Preparation is an act of love.
- Privacy should be the default.
- Sharing should be selective & intentional.
- You decide what’s seen and hidden.

Our moral compass
We'll continue to care for our users and their data, listening to feedback to make TimeTrove even better.
Not everything needs troving. Just the things that matter most.
TimeTrove isn't about saving everything. It's about choosing the moments, stories, voices and wishes that deserve to last. The photograph that needs its story.
The voice you never want forgotten. The message someone may need one day. Because it's often the smallest things that become the biggest treasures.
